Biography

David Anderson is an editorial cartoonist and illustrator. His first children's book, Whispers from the Bushveld is a collection of short stories about African animals that was published in 2006 by Shuter & Shooter [a South African educational publisher.] This was followed by a sequel, More Tales from the Bushveld, published in 2009.

David was the editorial cartoonist for a number of newspapers in South Africa including the anti-apartheid mouthpiece, The Rand Daily Mail until its closure in 1985. He was then appointed editorial cartoonist and graphics editor to the biggest daily in the country The Johannesburg Star.

In 1990 he moved with his family to Toronto where he still works as a freelance cartoonist and illustrator. His work has appeared in all of Toronto's major daily papers and is syndicated worldwide by The New York Times Syndicate and C&W Syndicate in California.

He has done school readings of his work and talks on political cartooning. He and his wife have held several workshops on Cartooning for Kids and the fun of drawing.

An exhibition of David's work 20 Years of South African Political Cartoons was held at the Harbourfront Centre, Toronto during the du Maurier World Stage Festival of 2003.
