Born: July 6, 1948. Memphis, Tennessee BiographyAs an experienced teacher of curious kids, as well as a lover of fairy tales, I've been able to combine these interests into writing both fiction and non-fiction books for children. My writing reflects a keen interest in ecology, myth and fantasy, and I look for ways to incorporate these themes into my books. Born in the American South, I graduated from the University of Texas with a degree in English. After training as a Montessori elementary teacher in Bergamo, Italy, I immigrated to Canada in 1976 where I worked with Montessori elementary students. In addition to my kid's writing, I have worked in adult education teaching essay writing and English as a Second Language. I've also worked as a freelance journalist, writing numerous magazine and newspaper stories on a wide array of subjects ranging from Galileo to Elvis Presley to pesticides in foods. Presently, I'm pursuing play therapy certification with The Canadian Association for Child and Play Therapy.
