Calgary, Alberta BiographyBorn in Edmonton, Maureen was raised in Edmonton and Calgary. She loved writing as a child, but had nothing to say, so she went on to other things, first a Bachelor's Degree in History, then a Masters Degree in Environmental Design (Environmental Science), both from the University of Calgary. She worked as a public involvement consultant and trained as a mediator, and then discovered that she liked writing even better. She has a Post-graduate Certificate of Creative Writing from Humber College. Her first book, The Nexus Ring (Coteau, 2007) is a fantasy novel for 8 - 12 year olds, set in the real world and in a fantasy world in BC and Alberta, from the coast to the Rockies. It received a Canadian Children's Book Centre Best Books for 2008 recommendation and has been nominated for the 2009 Diamond Willow. In Feather Brain (Orca 2008), Lucas makes a dinosaur model using a kit he purchased through the Internet, and gets much more than he bargained for. It's a fantasy novel about dinosaurs and bullying, in the Orca Young Readers series, for kids just ready to read novels. Feather Brain is an OLA Best Bets for Children, a Silver Birch Express Honour Book, and has been nominated for the 2010 Hackmatack, the 2010 Rocky Mountain, the 2010 Golden Eagle, and the 2010-2011 Red Cedar Readers Choice Awards. Feather Brain also received an Honourable Mention for the 2009 YA Sunburst Award. Crow Boy (Coteau 2007) continues Josh and Maddy's adventures from The Nexus Ring, when they return to Castle Mountain and the magical world of the Rockies. Maureen lives in Calgary with her husband and two daughters. Published Works
