Biography

I was born in the city of flowers, Victoria, BC. Growing up in fairfield near the water lead me to adventures on the shoreline at Ross Bay. Playing in the sand and between logs, exploring tide pools and building forts were my favorite pastimes with friends. My love of poetry began in grade 6 when I wrote my first Haiku and Limerick. From this moment I was compelled to write more. I kept a diary of daily events and our trip to Disneyland. I continued writing in grade 7. My teacher asked us to do a writing assignment, a science fiction short story. I had no idea that writing an episode of twilight zone was not permissible. The idea was that I should think of my own plot. At the time, I thought it was o.k. to do so. I took a class of creative writing in grade 8. I was the only grade 8 in a grade 10 writing class. Some of the grade 10's were astonished that I received an A. We also did a stint of calligraphy in that class. I remember the other students crowding around my desk awed at my writing of the calligraphy. Throughout my years taking English, even in second year college, I mostly received a great letter grade. I love writing and always have. In grade 2, I remember copying a poem for father's day. I recall loving the poem and enjoyed printing in on cardboard. The poem was called "Snug as a Bug in a Rug". We sewed a button on a piece of carpet and the poem was attached to the back.

At college, the first program I took was early childhood education. I excelled in the program because I loved every aspect of it. We learned to work in groups, present and write observations. We had practicums in daycares and preschools. After receiving my certificate in early childhood I went on to the University of Victoria where I acquired a Bachelor's of Arts degree in Psychology and Sociology. I also took many courses in elementary education like math for elementary teachers, biology for elementary teachers, art education, music education and more!
