Born: 1963. Washington D.C., U.S.A. BiographyJoan Marie Galat combines the science of the night sky with mythology in her Dot to Dot in the Sky series of books. She finds storytelling an ideal way to lure others into sharing her interest in astronomy. Her popular books have been translated in Korean, where she has traveled to share stories of the constellations, planets, and Moon. Joan frequently visits schools, libraries, and planetariums to talk about astronomy, writing, and creativity. She delights audiences with presentations that include juggling star-shaped beanbags to illustrate the concept of falling stars! Joan's very first writing job sprung from an honourable mention received for entering a poetry contest when she was 13. This led to a weekly question and answer bird column for a weekly newspaper. After graduating from the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology in Biological Sciences, Ecology, Joan worked as a naturalist and eventually in radio, becoming an announcer, as well as a news and copywriter. Joan's continuing fascination with astronomy is compatible with her aversion to going to bed early! Joan lives in Stony Plain, near Edmonton, Alberta. She operates a communications business, MoonDot Media, offering writing solutions in broadcast, print, and multi-media. Published Works
