391 Wellesley Street East BiographyPaul Kropp is the author of more than fifty works for young people. His work includes five picture books for beginning readers, many high interest novels (link:www.hip-books.com) for reluctant readers, and eight award-winning young adult novels for teenage readers. As well, Paul Kropp writes non-fiction books and articles for teachers and parents. Paul Kropp began his writing career in 1978. "I was teaching at a school where most of the kids had trouble reading," he says, "so I decided to write a book that they could read, and might want to read." That book was Burn Out, the first Series Canada title. Since then, Paul Kropp has written and edited dozens of novels for reluctant readers. "Unfortunately, writing hi/lo fiction is quite confining," he explains, "so I soon began a full-length young adult novel to explore some of the larger themes with which teenagers struggle." That first novel, Wilted, was a success in both Canada and the United States. Kropp's subsequent young adult novels have been translated into many languages and won awards around the world. Recently, Paul Kropp has begun writing illustrated books for younger children. He also runs an editorial company in Toronto which coordinates book projects for various publishers.
