Born: Feb 18, 1947. Saskatoon, SK. BiographyRod is a fiction writer and editor. He once studied to be a priest, worked in a sawmill, on lobster boats, in hospitals and drove cab. He has also worked as a playwright, director and actor in theatre and film. He performs numerous readings and workshops throughout Canada. His writing credits date back to the late sixties and not specifically included in this "Bio" are radio commentaries over the local, regional, and national network of the CBC, miscellaneous magazine articles, and various writing-competition juries. His significant interests are his family, social issues, history and golf — though not always in that order. He is accustomed to travelling and working in a variety of settings. Other MembershipsAmong his professional memberships are the Canadian Society of Children's Authors, Illustrators and Performers (CANSCAIP), the Saskatchewan Playwrights Centre (SPC), the Saskatchewan Writers Guild (SWG), The Writers Guild of Canada (WGC) (and he was a founding member of the Guild of Canadian Playwrights -- now Playwrights Union of Canada, PUC). Available ForReadings: grades three and up; any number. Readings are part story-telling (Why am I a writer?) part stand-up, part Q & A, and part actual reading. Workshops: grades six and up; restricted to number of writing spaces. Ask that groups be age-homogenous. Workshop is technical but interactive focusing on "Essential Parts of Story." |
