Biography

Karen was born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.  As a child she loved to draw and read. Although she had no dreams of making picture books, a telling sentence was written on the back of a photo of her at 10 months old, "Here is Karen looking at a book.  She enjoys books, especially those that have pictures of animals in them."

Karen graduated from the University of Manitoba with a Bachelor of Fine Arts Honors degree.  She continued her studies at the University of Alberta and received a Master of Visual Arts degree in Visual Communication.

Karen lives in Toronto, where she works as an illustrator, author, designer, visual artist, and visual arts educator.
