Biography

Simon was born in Derbyshire, England in 1961. He graduated from university with a degree in history in 1982 and moved to Canada in 1990. He is also a graduate of the Institute of Children's Literature of West Redding, CT and has been a prolific writer of children's fiction for many years.

Simon is a long time fan and avid reader of science fiction, fantasy, ancient mysteries and anything mysterious and unexplained. He was a voracious reader of comic books, particularly Marvel comics, while growing up. Simon has also retained a great interest in history over the years and has a large collection of books on every historical period imaginable. He first began to write as a teenager, when he first had the idea for a sprawling science fiction and fantasy epic. The as yet untitled work is one that he still tinkers with from time to time. It may be one of the most overdue works in progress, but Simon hopes one day to see it in print.

Simon's first novel for young readers, The Alchemist's Portrait was published in May 2003 and The Sorcerer's Letterbox, followed in April 2004. The Clone Conspiracy was published in June 2005 and The Emerald Curse in July 2006. A fifth novel, The Heretic's Tomb, will be available in September 2007. All Simon's novels are available in bookstores and on-line across Canada, as well as in the USA, UK, Australia and New Zealand. Simon writes every day, whenever the idea or inspiration strikes and is currently hard at work on more novels, in addition to formulating the plots, characters and ideas for a whole host of other stories.

Simon and his two children, dog and cat live in Calgary, where he is active in the local community, most recently as a junior soccer coach. Simon is available for readings and presentations at schools, libraries, bookstores, festivals and anywhere children gather, to talk about his books, his ideas, and the creative and writing process.
