Biography

Margriet Ruurs has been writing children's and educational materials for a long time!

"I love to use my imagination and to dream up stories!" she says. Margriet also loves to work in schools - to tell children about being a writer and to share her love of playing with language. Having been born and raised in The Netherlands, Margriet is bilingual. She writes and translates into Dutch and English. She writes poetry and likes to make silly rhymes!

Margriet, with her husband and two sons, has lived in many places - including California, Oregon, Northern Alberta, Kananaskis Provincial Park and The Yukon. They like hiking and camping in the mountains and traveling. Once they traveled for a whole year! They now live in British Columbia's Okanagan Valley where Margriet teaches writing programs in schools. She has a Master's Degree in Education from Simon Fraser University and has studied the use of technology in teaching reading and writing to children. She speaks at conferences around North America to parents, teachers and librarians but the thing she likes most is getting children excited about reading good books!
