Calgary, Alberta Family: Married with three boys BiographyGloria Singendonk found her passion for children's writing about ten years ago. She gained confidence in her ability when one of her first stories, "Danny's Orange" (which was originally written on a fast food napkin), placed in the semi-finals of the Writer's Union of Canada's 1999 Writing for Children competition. She's had several non-fiction articles published in FACES magazine including "Fred Bagley" which follows a teen trumpeter on the 1874 NWMP March West, "Margerie Parr" about a young girl who came with the Barr Colonist from England to Lloydminster, Alberta/Saskatchewan, and "A Hot Discovery" on the history of the National Park System of Canada. Her most recent sale includes an article on the sport of curling to Highlights for Children. Between working for Alberta Wheat Pool as a corporate trainer and conducting research on Alberta's history, Gloria has visited almost every town in the province. When not writing, she volunteers with a number of organizations, bowls in two competitive leagues and scrapbooks.
