Biography

I was born in England but moved to Ontario when I was seven. I was a complete bookworm as a child. I read every children's book in our small town library and most of the books on my parents' bookshelves. I still love books and read just about everything everything: short stories, novels, travel writing, memoirs, history.

I wanted to be a writer when I was a kid but didn't get around to it until I was well into my thirties. Instead I did a degree in philosophy, followed by a Master's degree in social work. I also did a fair bit of travelling along the way, backpacking through Australia, New Zealand, Europe, Africa and South East Asia; and sailing a boat from Ontario down to the Bahamas and back.

I enjoy writing for all ages. My novels so far have included books for both teen and middle-grade readers, I have a book for younger kids coming out in 2010, and I write short fiction for adults as well. I spent ten years working as a counsellor, social worker and university instructor, and still do this work occasionally, although these days being a writer and a parent take up most of my time. I live in Victoria, BC with my partner and our young son.

And I love to hear from readers!
