Biography

I was born in England but moved to Ontario when I was seven. I was a complete bookworm as a child. I read every children's book in our small town library and most of the books on my parents' bookshelves. I still love books and read just about everything everything: short stories, novels, travel writing, memoirs, history.

I wanted to be a writer when I was a kid but didn't get around to it until I was well into my thirties. Instead I did a degree in philosophy, followed by a Master's degree in social work. I also did a fair bit of travelling along the way, backpacking through Australia, New Zealand, Europe, Africa and South East Asia. A few years ago, I spent a year sailing a boat down to the Bahamas and back again and am currently working on a young adult novel which draws on that adventure. It'll be published in the fall of 2008.

I enjoy writing for kids of all ages, as well for teens and adults. When I'm not making up stories, I work as a social worker and university instructor. A few years ago, I moved to the west coast and now live in Victoria with my partner and our four year old son.
