Biography
Mary Intven Wallace works as a professional artist, author and educator. Her artwork is shown across Canada, as well in the books she writes. Mary has written many, including 'The Inuksuk Book'. Awards for her work include the
National Outdoor Book Award, White Raven Award, and Voice of Youth Advocates Honor List. Her latest book, 'Art for the Heart' (2002), offers creative art exercises for young women. As well as painting and writing, Mary is a teacher and facilitator for interactive art workshops (including the author visits to schools around Canada, the Haliburton School of the Arts, the University of Western Ontario, the Royal Ontario Museum, Art Gallery of Ontario, and the Ontario Science Center).

Author visits:
"EXPERIENCE AN INUKSUK": Children of all ages will enjoy this wonderful interactive presentation. Participants will:
- Hear about why the inuksuk is a strong symbol of our Canadian north
- See slides portraying Inuit life and the Arctic landscape
- Learn about Nunavut and Inuit culture
- View large, luminescent original silk paintings (the book's illustrations)
- Build a stone inuksuk for the school or library (yes, I will supply the stones)
- Optional activity: Create an inuksuk message using a torn paper collage technique and learn to write your name and a message in Inuktitut syllabics (this can be done as a follow-up activity; I will leave a sample and instructions)
"ART FOR THE HEART - CREATIVE EXPRESSION FOR YOU AND YOUR FRIENDS":
- An exciting workshop for those interested in creativity.
- Participants will be guided through an exploration of the creative process involved in art making.
- Within a structured and supportive environment participants will learn methods for accessing the personal, inner source of their creativity. They will investigate and express personal themes through experimentation with the language of colour and design.
- Workshop activities will include demonstration, interactive group exercises, slides, guided visualization, and lots of hands on experimentation.
