Biography

Kari-Lynn Winters is a picture book author, poet, and performer. She enjoys being in the classroom in any capacity, as a presenter, a teacher, or as a student. After earning her doctorate from the University of British Columbia in 2009 in the Language and Literacy Department, she took the post of Assistant Professor in the Department of Teacher Education at Brock University.

Previously, Kari-Lynn-Lynn taught in various places in the United States and Ontario. She holds a teaching degree from the University of Toronto for children ages 3-13. She is also a graduate of the National Theatre School of Canada in Montreal, where she earned a certificate in technical theatre.

Kari-Lynn's first picture book, Jeffrey and Sloth (Orca, 2007) -- a tale about a boy who has writer's block and the imaginary creature he creates to help him write his story -- has won numerous reader's choice and other awards. Her books have been translated into French and Korean.

Kari-Lynn will use drama, songs, and poetry to bring reading and writing to life. Students will learn about phonemes, sight words, and literacy strategies as they clap, dance, and move to the rhythm of the words.These 50 minute presentations/workshops include: readings from my books and magazine stories, puppets, songs, strategies for writing, drama, and so forth, a question period, and a book signing (Primary up to grade 5)

I can also do a slightly modified presentation for pre-kindergarten up to grade 8 kids.
