PRESENTATIONDefining, Discussing, and Demystifying Diversity: Toward a Publishing Perspective

By now it’s no secret that #WeNeedDiverseBooks. But how does that affect the choices Canadian children’s book publishers make? Looking at such issues as authenticity of voice and the definition of a diverse reading audience in the Canadian context, the Editor of Books for Children and Teens at James Lorimer discusses her experience in developing understanding and support of diverse literature for young people.

Kat Mototsune has worked for nearly 30 years as an editor of educational and academic books, professional development for educators, and fiction and nonfiction for adults and children. She is especially interested in publishing books that aren’t about only white boys, as that was mostly what there was to read when she was growing up.
