Join us to hear from two of Canada's most celebrated illustrators!

Barbara Reid
has enjoyed creating over 25 picture books for more than twenty-five years. Her dimensional plasticine illustrations have won many awards including a Governor General’s Award, the Ezra Jack Keats Award, the Ruth Schwartz Award, and the Children’s Author of the Year and Children’s Illustrator of the Year Libris Awards from the Canadian Booksellers association. Most recently, Barbara has been appointed to the Order of Ontario. Her latest books are Picture a Tree and Perfect Snow. Barbara lives in Toronto with her family. Barbara’s husband, Ian Crysler, is a professional photographer who brings all her artwork to life on the page. Barbara is not bored with illustration or plasticine, and is still learning.

Michael Martchenko is an award-winning children’s book illustrator. Since 1980, the year he worked with Robert Munsch on The Paper Bag Princess, Michael has illustrated over 75 books for children and has exhibited his work throughout North America. He won the Ruth Schwartz Award for Thomas’ Snowsuit in 1986, and has won additional awards for design and illustration. His most recent illustrated book is It’s My Room!, written by Robert Munsch, and published by Scholastic Canada. Michael lives in Toronto with his wife, Patricia.
