Join Us

CANSCAIP is the largest organization in Canada supporting creative work for children and young adults. Together with the Canadian Children's Book Centre and the Children's Literature Roundtables, we speak on behalf of children and children's culture in many forums. We are concerned about the defense of children's library programs, the problem of censorship in schools and the increasing need to re-emphasize the importance of books and performance for children. Canada's writers, illustrators and performers for young people have achieved great success both here and around the world. The efforts of CANSCAIP have been important in encouraging that success. Join us to become part of an exciting and creative future.

What We Offer

Members

CANSCAIP Members are published authors, illustrators and professional performers.

Each CANSCAIP Member receives:

  • a biographical page in the CANSCAIP Members List on this site, including optional link in the List of Speakers for Schools and Conferences
  • quarterly issues of our newsletter, the CANSCAIP NEWS containing interviews, articles, and information about awards, new Members, new books, publishers and projects
  • access to resources in the Members/Friends Only section of our website
  • access to the CANSCAIP Forums, a national message board for discussion about all aspects of children's literature in Canada, open to Friends and Members
  • an opportunity to join the CANSCAIP listserv, an email community open to members only
  • a new and updated Directory each year with the Members' addresses and websites
  • free copies of CANSCAIP monographs
    • How to Do a School Presentation
    • How to Negotiate an Illustrator Contract
    and others
  • full voting privileges and detailed monthly minutes of CANSCAIP meetings
  • and a chance to join with other Members to contribute to the growing field of children's culture in Canada

Member Fee: $75 CDN yearly

Friends (Associate Members)

CANSCAIP Friends are those interested in Canadian children's culture such as aspiring writers, authors and illustrators, librarians, teachers, designers, artists, editors and publishers.

Each friend receives:

  • CANSCAIP NEWS quarterly, with specific information about publishing markets, tips on getting started, and articles on how various CANSCAIP Members became professional authors, illustrators and performers
  • access to resources in the Members/Friends Only section of our website
  • access to the CANSCAIP Forums, a national message board for discussion about all aspects of children's literature in Canada, open to Friends and Members
  • information about recent publications and other activities in children's culture
  • an open invitation to attend monthly CANSCAIP meetings in Toronto and elsewhere across Canada

Individual Friend fee: $35 CDN yearly

Institutional Friend fee: $45 CDN yearly
