Bio
Getting a degree in sciences may not be an obvious first step to becoming a children's writer, but that was how Elizabeth MacLeod's career began. She survived the Banff Publishing Workshop a few years later and began work as an editor at OWL Magazine. Liz took a break from children's publishing to write for a software company, then became an editor at Kids Can Press. Now she is a freelance writer and editor, working for a number of publishers. Liz writes books, textbook articles, magazine articles and more. She also edits material for both children and adults.

Liz has written more than 50 books, ranging from non-fiction to picture books to craft books. She especially enjoys investigating the lives of such well-known people as Lucy Maud Montgomery, the Wright brothers and Albert Einstein, and making their lives interesting and accessible to children. Liz has written two series of award-winning biographies. one for first readers and one for kids ages 8 to 12. The subjects of her books about animals include dinosaurs, cats, horses, pterosaurs (flying creatures from the time of the dinosaurs) and others. She's also written books about money, royalty, food, great Canadians and many other topics.

Writing for children gives Liz the opportunity to investigate many topics and find out more about our incredible world. Did you know that some dinosaurs were as small as pigeons or that Alexander Graham Bell often was annoyed the way the telephone interrupted his work?
