TOPIC: Breaking In Through the French Doors
Bilingual author Mireille (pronounced Mee-Ray) Messier learned the ropes about writing for children with Quebec publishers. When she decided to try her hand at publishing in English, she was in for a "réveil brutal". What are the differences between publishing in Quebec and publishing in English Canada? Mireille shares her journey with all its idiosyncratic ups and downs.

Mireille Messier is a Montreal-born and now Toronto-based children's writer with a background in broadcasting and theatre. She has worked as a television and radio host, director, researcher, book reviewer, translator and voice actress. One of her first “literary” jobs was writing jokes for the bottom of pudding lids! Since her first book in 2003, Mireille has published over 20 books, most of them in French but, recently, in English too. She has had the pleasure of having her books be in the running for the Governor General award, the Prix Tamarac, Prix Peuplier and the Blue Spruce. Mireille lives in Toronto with her husband, two teenage daughters and three extremely fluffy cats.
