JUNE MEETING at The Bookshelf in Guelph (Wed Jun 13)

  • Wednesday, June 13, 2018

MEETING Wed. Jun. 13

LOCATION: The Bookshelf, 41 Quebec Street in Guelph 519 821-3311

Although our meetings are usually in Toronto, for our June meeting (the last of the season--no meetings in July or August), we meet in Guelph, Canada’s fastest-growing city, and home to a large community of CANSCAIP authors and illustrators. We'll be gathering at The Bookshelf, a longtime indie bookstore and community hub. Hope to see you there!

MEMBER ANNOUNCEMENTS: Celebrating a new book? Having an event? Teaching a course? Other news? Get on the agenda to make your announcement at the meeting! Please send office@canscaip.org the following info:

  • Your name
  • Book title, genre/reading age, publisher, publication date
  • Summary of your book, event, course, or other news
  • Will you make your announcement at the meeting in person?
  • In the email subject line include "Member Announcement"

MEETING ACTIVITIES

4:00 and after: We'll all meet at The Bookshelf. CANSCAIP concierges will be there to direct and organize.

4:00–5:00 After meeting at The Bookshelf, we'll arrange for several groups to be taken to Werner Zimmermann's studio on 25 Wyndham Street North (upstairs)—it's the door between Wimpy's Diner and Dino's Sports. Go upstairs, and the door is on your right. From The Bookshelf it's a 2-minute walk: Walk down Quebec Street  1/2 block toward St. George’s Square (look for the building with a large clock at the top—you can’t miss it). Cross the street at the lights and turn right onto Wyndham. The studio is 1/2 block away.

5:00–6:00 Linger at The Bookshelf for drinks or book browsing.

6:00–7:00 Dinner at The Bookshelf’s restaurant (upstairs). Everyone orders their own meal off the menu. (NOTE: Feel free to start your dinner earlier than 6:00--the restaurant would appreciate some earlier diners to help manage the crowd!)

7:00–8:30 Panel discussion (at the restaurant) over dessert and coffee.  Potential theme for panelists “What no one tells you about being a children’s/YA author or illustrator” with Guelph-area authors and illustrators:  Erin Bow, Kathy Stinson, Kira Vermond, Eric Walters, Werner Zimmermann.

8:30 Wrap up so Toronto folks can head home. Or stick around and continue the conversation over drinks at The Bookshelf’s ebar next-door.

PARKING: There is a parking lot near The Bookshelf called the Baker Street Lot. Directions: Head to Quebec Street, turn left at the first set of lights (Baker Street) after Norfolk. Take an immediate right onto Chapel Lane (just past the back of the church) and you’ll find the parking lot entrance on the left at the end of the little street. OR use Google maps and search for "Baker Street Parking Lot Guelph.” The cost is $2 an hour until 6 p.m., then it’s free.
