Join CANSCAIP

Founded in 1977, CANSCAIP is a national not-for-profit organization dedicated to the celebration and promotion of Canadian children's authors, illustrators and performers and their work. We provide promotional and networking opportunities to over 400 professional Members and 600 Friends, making us the largest organization in Canada supporting creative work for children and young adults. Canada's writers, illustrators and performers for young people have achieved great success here and around the world, and CANSCAIP has been an important part of encouraging that success. Join us!

What you will get:

Members

CANSCAIP Members are traditionally* published authors, illustrators and professional performers.

*What is traditionally published? Publication in print or e-book through a recognized Canadian publisher or international publisher is considered as eligibility to be a CANSCAIP Member. 

Each CANSCAIP Member receives:

  • bio page on CANSCAIP Members Directory on this site.
  • regular meetings with others who care about children’s literature.
  • access to the Members' Listserv (optional), our popular email chat group.
  • free CANSCAIP e-publications:

  • an updated e-directory each year of Members' addresses and websites.
  • participation in CANSCAIP's Critique Exchange Forum, exclusive to Members and Friends only.

Friends (Associate Members)

Friend (Associate) membership is open to unpublished or aspiring children's authors, illustrators and performers. Self-published authors or illustrators, in print, print on demand or e-book, including through sole-proprietorship companies are welcome to be a CANSCAIP Friend. Librarians, teachers, designers, parents, editors and publishers, can also join CANSCAIP as a Friend.

Each CANSCAIP Friend receives:

  • CANSCAIP News e-quarterly and CANSCAIP meeting notes monthly.
  • regular meetings with others who care about children’s literature.
  • Friends section on the website with helpful articles 
  • Blue Pencil program for your work to be critiqued by a CANSCAIP Mentor (for an additional fee).
  • participation in CANSCAIP's Critique Exchange Forum
  • post information about events, awards and new creations on the CANSCAIP blog.

    Friend fee: $45 CDN yearly
