Professional information

Bio
Valerie Sherrard first decided to become an author when she was in grade six! Her homeroom teacher that year, Mr. Alf Lower, praised and encouraged her efforts and instilled in her a lifelong belief in her ability to write. Although nearly three decades went by before she began to pursue writing seriously, Valerie never forgot her teacher’s words.

While the majority of her stories are for tweens and teens, Sherrard's work also includes picture books, chapter books and several works of non-fiction. Her 35th book will be released in spring 2026.

In 2024 Valerie was honoured by her province when she received the Lieutenant-Governor Award for High Achievement in Literary Arts. To date, she has won or been shortlisted for about 60 other awards for her writing for young people.

Born in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, Valerie has lived in a number of provinces. She currently lives in Miramichi, New Brunswick with her husband Brent (who is also an author).
