Members

CANSCAIP Members are traditionally published*  authors or illustrators, or professional performers* for children or teens.

*What is traditionally published?  Authors, illustrators and translators of books for children or teens from recognized Canadian or international publishers are eligible to be CANSCAIP Members. 

Traditional publishers pay for writing, illustrating, editing, design, printing, marketing, sales and distribution, warehousing and shipping.  Traditionally published authors and illustrators are paid for their work through advances against royalties, and royalties on sales.

*What is a professional performer?  Storytellers, musicians, actors and other performers for children and teens are eligible to be CANSCAIP Members if they are paid at a professional standard for performances in theatres, classrooms, libraries and other venues.  

Friends 

CANSCAIP's Friend membership is open to unpublished, self-published*, and aspiring children's authors and illustrators, and amateur children's performers. CANSCAIP Friends also include teachers, librarians, publishers, journalists and many others interested in kids books.

*What is self-published?  Self-published authors pay for some or all of the costs of producing their books.  Requiring payment to produce books is a key difference between self-publishing and traditional publishing.  Self-publishing organizations may include assisted self-publishing companies, hybrid publishing companies,  and sole-proprietorship companies.
