For more than 40 years, CANSCAIP has been dedicated to Canadian children's authors, illustrators and performers and their work. We provide professional development, promotion, and networking opportunities to over 400 professional Members and 600 Friends--we're the largest organization in Canada supporting creative work for children and teens. Canada's creators for young people have achieved great success here and around the world, and CANSCAIP has been an important part of encouraging that success. Please join us!

Benefits of Membership


CANSCAIP Members are traditionally* published authors or illustrators, or professional* performers for children or teens.

*What is traditionally published?  Publication in print or e-book through a recognized Canadian publisher or international publisher is considered as eligibility to be a CANSCAIP Member. 

*What is a professional performer?  Performers, including storytellers , who perform for children or teens in classrooms, libraries and other venues,  and who are paid at a professional standard for their performances, are considered eligible to be CANSCAIP Members.

  • CANSCAIP News quarterly newsletter
  • discounted price on our conferences, webinars, and other registration events
  • bio page and photo on CANSCAIP Members Directory on our website
  • monthly membership meetings with others who care about children’s literature

Friend membership is open to unpublished or aspiring children's authors or illustrators, or amateur performers. Self-published authors or illustrators, in print, print on demand or e-book, including through sole-proprietorship companies are welcome to be a CANSCAIP Friend. Librarians, teachers, designers, parents, editors and publishers, can also join CANSCAIP as a Friend.

CANSCAIP Friends receive:

  • CANSCAIP News e-quarterly and CANSCAIP meeting notes monthly.
  • regular meetings with others who care about children’s literature.
  • Friends section on the website with helpful articles 
  • Blue Pencil program for your work to be evaluated by a CANSCAIP Mentor (for an additional fee).
  • access to the CANSCAIP blog to post info about events, awards and new books.
  • announcements, invitations and book industry news via email 
  • vote at our Annual Meeting of Members
